Diabetes is an increasing problem in most developed nations. Greater percentages of people are being diagnosed with diabetes. Unsurprisingly, these new cases of diabetes are threatening to overwhelm the healthcare systems of these nations.
Most people can avoid diabetes through diet and exercise. A healthy weight and lots of exercise make it a lot easier in avoiding the disease.
But if you get diabetes, the next best thing is early detection of the disease. Like other conditions, the sooner it’s found, the easier it is to treat. Many sufferers are able to avoid medication and treat their condition through planned eating and continued exercise.
Common diabetes signs include:
- Frequent need to visit the bathroom. Increased urination is a problem because the glucose in the blood overwhelms the kidneys. The kidneys use more water to eliminate the sugar, requiring more trips to the toilet.
- Constant thirst. Not surprisingly, diabetes sufferers are often thirsty. Constant urination is usually the cause, as the body seeks to replace the water taken out by the kidneys.
- Unexpected weight loss. This doesn’t always happen, but weight loss without trying is usually a flagpost that something’s incorrect in the human body. With diabetes, it can be due to the body using up muscle and fat cells for energy.
- Weakness and fatigue. Again, many conditions cause you to feel tired.
- Tingling and numbness in the extremities. As high glucose damages the nervous system, the patient develops neuropathy, problems with the limbs.
- Blurred vision. Excess blood sugar can affect vision. Blindness and other eye conditions are possible with untreated diabetes.
- Problems healing. Diabetes can make it more difficult for a body to heal. Scrapes and infections can take longer than normal to heal.
If you suspect you are developing diabetes, don’t delay! Make an appointment with doctor. A simple blood sugar test will quickly tell the doctor if have developed diabetes. The sooner you know, the better off you’ll be in treating the disease.
